Power Station Design: 24 MW Power Station

This 24 MW installation doubled the generating capacity at the Diavik Diamond Mine located in the Northwest Territories where temperatures drop to minus 50°C. The installation included a new power station building with two CAT 3612’s, two CAT 3616’s and two CAT 280 gensets. The facility was designed to utilize full combined heat and power based on heat recovered from jacket water, oil cooling, charge air cooling and exhaust gas. The heat recovered was used for building heat and process requirements to offset the heat required from the hot water boilers.

Teck responsibilities included mechanical and piping design and W.N. Brazier Associates Inc. was the lead consultant, on behalf of Finning Power Systems.
